The star has handed over the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound award winnings to the Music Venues Trust, which operates to preserve the UK's independent live music spots.

He was presented with the cheque on mid-October as his third album his work was chosen as the top album of the previous year.

Fender has opted to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role small stages fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I wouldn't be doing this success if it hadn't been for all the performances I played around the region, and beyond, when I was beginning," remarked the artist. "These venues are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – about 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its initiatives to help venues survive, by adding a modest fee to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Fender also joined in, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist 38 local spots across Britain.

The money helped venues that were confronting imminent closure due to challenges arising from floods, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and sound issues.

Some locations received funding support in modernizing infrastructure and gear that positively impacted artists and fans.

"The concept that money from shows in big venues supports the local stages, where it begins for musicians like me, is just logical," the star has stated.

The musician is not the first artist to contribute his Mercury Prize funds to good deeds.

When the band received the award in the mid-90s for their release the album, frontman the singer announced that the group would donate their cash to the charity the charity.

That year, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite shared her award between multiple charities, including the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"I also gave a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they required new equipment," the artist explained to a publication.

Previously, Ezra Collective gave their funds to the local youth club that nurtured their band, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

Also winners that year the group donated their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was found to have the illness.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," stated artist the singer. "The prize was the cherry on top but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the honor. So our winning impacted the lives of others."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust announced it had rescued two grassroots venues in south-east England, by transferring them to public stewardship.

One venue in that area and The Croft in that location were bought under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is backed by a national body and enthusiasts who purchase "ownership units" in the buildings.
